Happy Veteran’s Day and thank you to all who have served and are currently serving! Saturday, November 11th is a Free National Park Day in honor of Veteran’s Day.  There are also lots of freebies and discounts throughout the area for veterans and active duty personnel!

Veteran’s Day Activities

The National Museum of the United States Army in Fort Belvoir will be celebrating our veterans all weekend with special visitor activities and commemorations. Museum admission and public programs are free.

The National Museum of the Marine Corps will be celebrating the Marine Corps birthday this Friday with two cake cutting ceremonies and continuing the celebration on Saturday with patriotic crafts and birthday-themed activities in honor of Veterans Day. Both events are free and open to the public

Arlington National Cemetery will have its annual Veterans Day National Ceremony commencing precisely at 11:00 a.m. with a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns and continues inside the Memorial Amphitheater with a parade of colors by Veterans’ organizations and remarks from dignitaries.

George Washington’s Mount Vernon is giving free admission to admission to Mount Vernon for all active duty, former, or retired military personnel on Saturday.

Other Activities

The 30th Annual Northern Virginia Christmas Market is Friday through Sunday at the Dulles Expo Center. 225 artisans from over 30 states will be selling their wares. Admission is $9, children under 12 are free.

It’s the 2nd Saturday Art Walk at the Workhouse Art Center in Lorton. From 6 pm to 9 pm you can meet the artists and tour the Lucy Burns Museum.

It’s opening weekend for the NOVA Parks Lights.  Drive though 2.5 miles of lights at Bull Run Festival of Lights in Centreville. Meadowlark’s Winter Walk of Lights in Vienna is a half mile walk through Meadowlark Botanical Gardens featuring lighted nature themes and animated displays along a paved wheelchair and stroller-accessible trail. If ice skating is more your speed, Ice & Lights at Cameron Run Regional Park in Alexandria features a winter village with unique light displays, snap family pictures or selfies with a variety of displays. The Winter Village opens 11/17. Tickets are required and should be purchased in advance.
